Vaudagna is typically Piedmontese, of Turin, Maglione and Carignano in Turin, Vaudagnotti and Vaudagnotto are absolutely rare and also Piedmontese, should derive, either directly or through an ethnic form in-otti/-eight, by ancient names of localities such as the Provencal Vodjean or the Germanic Waudejean, both have the meaning of the valley of Gianni, and could be the names of the probable places of origin of the ancestor, from one of these ancient toponyms took the name the village of Vaudagne in the high Savoia.
