VERNENGHI | VERNENGO

Vernenghi, almost unique is probably due to an adaptation of the surname Vernengo which has a ligurian strain, in that of Moneglia in the Genoese, and a Sicilian in Palermo, the origin of this surname could be from the late Latin term verna (slave born in the house of the master) and to indicate the state of the ancestor's Liberto, but it is also possible that derives instead from the medieval term winter derived from the Latin hibernum (winter), also used to indicate people coming from the north, so perhaps highlighting the origin North of the parent. Additions provided by Giovanni Vezzelli Vernengo is a Sicilian surname derived from the German staff Brining, Förstemann 336, or Warning, Femm. Werninga, ib. 1540-1541. Caracausi, 1700.
