VILLANI | VILLANO

Villano is very widespread in the lower Lazio, in Campania mainly, in the Potentino, in the Cosentino and in Sicily in Palermo and in the Catanese, Villani is absolutely pan-Italian, can derive either from the various place names containing the root Villa, either from the state of Villanus, or Inhabitant of the countryside, as opposed to the citizen, as can be inferred from this writing of 1200: "..., Scilicet quod querens asisam lead not poultry quia villanus est et filius Villani, Poterit utrumque esse verum,...". The famous character of this House was: Giovanni Villani, author of the Nova Chronica of Florence, who was born in 1276 and where he died in the 1348 victim of the plague.
