SANTA | VILLA | VILLASANTA

Villa Santa has a Piedmontese strain and one in Milanese that should derive from the name of the Milanese village of Villasanta, with some presence in Sardinia, Villasanta, very very rare, has presences in the south of Sardinia. Additions provided by Giuseppe Concas VILLA SANTA; VILLASANTA: The family Villa Santa has ancient Galician origins (Galicia: Region of the northwest of Spain, with the capital of Santiago de Compostela) transplants in Sardinia in the SIXTEENTH century, in the Spanish period of the Kingdom of Sardinia. Some members of the Villa Santa family distinguished themselves mainly in the military, in the first half of the TWENTIETH century. A first-born Villa Santa, Giovanna, married Giovanni Riva, Major of the Sassari Brigade and died in the field in 1916, during World War I. Their son Alberto Riva di Villa Santa, volunteered, died fighting in 1918, only 18 years (Gold medal in memory) 4 days before the armistice. Nino of Villa Santa Giovanna's brother, official soldier of the Sassari Brigade, reached the rank of general in the Great War and was secretary of the Commander-in-chief Emanuele Filiberto Duca d'aosta, until the death of the Prince. The general Nino Villa Santa, in love with Sardinia, planted a model farm in Sanluri, a company Villa Santa, and was also an honorary citizen of that centre. In 1924 he bought from the Aymerich the medieval castle of Sanluri, which, by consensus of the Duke of Aosta, predispose to house the National Museum of the Italian Risorgimento, as it still is. In 1946 Nino Villa Santa received the title of Count, who transmitted in 1960 to his sons Emanuele and Alberto, the two brothers who today affectionately the inhabitants of Sanluri call the "Guardians of the Castle." (See in the Web-Giuseppe Concas-festivals and events of Sardinia-the castle of Sanluri-). The surname Villa Santa is present today in 4 Italian towns, 2 of which in Sardinia: Cagliari 3, Sanluri 2. The surname Villasanta is present in 12 Italian municipalities of which 8 in Sardinia: Villamar 5, Domusnovas 3, Selargius 3, etc.
