Viotti is quite rare, with strains in the north in Piedmont, Liguria and Lombardy, with strains also in Lazio and Calabria, Viotto has a strain in Turin and one between Treviso and Veneziano, in some cases may derive from names of places such as Viotto di Scalenghe (to) , but most likely derive from modifications of the medieval name Vitus.
