ZUFFETTI | ZUFFI | ZUFFO

Zuffetti, very rare, is typical of the south of Milan and Crema, Zuffi has a strain in Pavia, Milan and Lecco, one in Venice and Rovigo and one in Emilia, particularly in the Modena, Bologna and Ferrara areas, Zuffo has a strain in the Savona area. one in the Verona area and one between the Treviso area and the Venetian one, could derive directly or through hypocorisms, from nicknames linked to the Lombard, Venetian, Emilian archaic zuff (bullying, bullying) word, but it is also possible to derive from nicknames originating from the medieval term zuffus ( tuft): "... Venit Mutinam quidam Franciscus de Castro Montagnæ cum quodam admirable animals, quod appellabatur Rates Barbarinum, ... habebat ..... zuffum a latere superiore ad modum barbæ caprinæ ...". We find traces of these surnames in Liguria and in Veneto at least from the second half of the 1600s, as we can guess from the book of 1665: "Tractatus de criminalis processus legitimatione libri tres. Quibus omnia ad materiam spectantia explanantur. Opus quam plura continens scitu dignissima à nemine hactenus tractata ... Cum annotationibus ad Barbarinam Constitutionem, & indicibus copiosis. Auctore Ioanne Zuffo de Finale Mutinen "
