Der Ursprung dieser Erkenntnis sollte nach Ansicht maßgeblicher Ahnenforscher in einem Patronym auf der Grundlage des Spitznamens gesucht werden, der im Mittelalter zum Begrüßungsnamen "Bellus" wurde, der daher dem Vorfahren gehörte. In Bologna seit dem zehnten dritten Jahrhundert bekannt, war es Teil von Lambertazza und damit Ghibelline. 1320 ging ein Zweig desselben nach Padua, dessen Adel es zugeschrieben wurde. Im Jahr 1550 zog eine weitere Niederlassung nach Trient. Dort schuf Charles, Prinzbischof von Trient, mit einem Diplom vom 20. September 1620 einen erblichen Adligen des Reiches Pietro, ehemaliger kanonischer Generalvikar und sein Koadjutor Bischof, zusammen mit seinem Bruder Antonio und seinen Nachkommen.
