Rastro heráldico de la familia: Coz
Corona de la nobleza Coz Ancient and noble French family, with main residence in the region of Brittany, of clear and ancestral virtue, that has worlwdide spread, over the centuries. The clear nobility of the house is confirmed by the presence of its blazon in the valuable work of J.B. Rietstap (12 May 1828–24 December 1891), a dutch heraldist and genealogist, "The Armorial General", a monumental work that contains the blazons of the coats of arms of more than 130,000 European families. Moreover, this family, in all ages, always stands out, thanks to the prominent figures, which gave birth, in the public service, in the liberal professions and in the military service. Among these, without undervalue the omitted, we would like to mention: Mathieu, crusader knight in 1248; Olivier, resident in Guingamp, who had part in the question for the canonization of Charles de Bois in 1371; Pierre that took as his wife Catherine de... Pestivien, approximately in 1427; Jean, abbot of Sainte-Croix de Guingamp in 1546; Thomas, doctor of both laws, flourishing in Guingamp, in 1578; Leon, landowner in Brittany, flourishing in 1603; Jean Charles, jurist and councillor in Guingamp, flourishing in 1632; Bernard, apostolic commissioner, flourishing in 1671. From the analysis of colours and symbols of the coat of arms we can also have more information about the family virtues. The argent, in fact, symbolizes purity, tenderness, temperance, mercy, kindness, the desire to win and the talent of eloquence; the green cross indicates that the family belonged to Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem, a Roman Catholic military order founded by crusaders around 1119 at a leper hospital in Jerusalem, Kingdom of Jerusalem, whose care became its original purpose, named after patron saint Lazarus. It was recognised by King Fulk of Jerusalem in 1142 and canonically recognised as hospitaller and military order of chivalry under the rule of Saint Augustine in the Papal bull "Cum a Nobis Petitur" of Pope Alexander IV, in 1255. Family names so old, without any doubt honour not only families but also the cities that welcomed them; seems to be, in fact, very worthy the living members of this family which, with much decorum, carry this noble surname, which has had several illustrious members.
