The origin of this family name can be found in the locality Hehenberg, in the parish of Gampern, first mentioned in the year 1480 as Hohenperg. But this family appears in Tyrol since at least the XVII century. A Georg Hechenperger, or Hechenberger, was in fact living in Gundhabing, a small village near Kitzbühel, when, on June 22, 1695, he received the confirmation for the use of the coat of arms, by the Palatine Earl Johann Nivard Sutorj.
