Mai 1828–24. Dezember 1891), einem niederländischen Heraldiker und Genealogen, „The Armorial General“, einem monumentalen Werk, das die Wappen des Hauses Sauer enthält, bestätigt Wappen von mehr als 130.000 europäischen Familien. Den Überlieferungen zufolge erhielt die Familie am 2. Mai 1630 den Titel eines Barons of Saint Empire und am 27. August 1668 einen Grafentitel von Saint Empire. Die Bestätigung ihres Adels erfolgte am 26. März 1865. Der österreichische Zweig erhielt am 27. Dezember 1834 die Anerkennung als Adeliger. Four helmets crowned. Crest: 1 two oyster feathers or and gules between to spades démanché sable; 2 a lion issuant contourné or hoding a ring of the same; 3 two spades sable with the handles in base; 4 a pair of wing conjoined with the arms of the second quarter (on the sinister wing the bend sinister is changed to bend dexter).
