Antigua y muy noble familia calabresa, de clara y ancestral virtud, que se ha extendido a lo largo de los siglos en diversas regiones de Italia y del mundo. Inicialmente conocido como Hermogida, luego Armogida o Ermogida, fue la residencia principal en Calabria Ultra y, precisamente, en la ciudad de Catanzaro donde ya se encuentra entre las antiguas y nobles en 1639, cuando Filippo Hermogida floreció, con todo su descendientes, se confirmó en la nobleza de sus antepasados. Este linaje es de hecho de origen aún más antiguo ya que en 1516 floreció en Squillace (Catanzaro) el maestro albañil Antonio Hermogida mientras que en 1569 floreció en Gioiosa Ionica la noble Diana Hermogida, esposa del noble Consalvo Linares. Sin embargo, cabe señalar que la forma original del apellido no siempre se mantuvo intacta a lo largo de los siglos con su ortografía primitiva.
