Antiga e mui nobre família calabresa, de clara e ancestral virtude, que se propagou ao longo dos séculos em várias regiões da Itália e do mundo. Inicialmente conhecida por Hermogida, mais tarde Armogida ou Ermogida, foi a residência principal na Calábria Ultra e, precisamente, na cidade de Catanzaro onde já figurava entre as antigas e nobres em 1639, quando floresceu Filippo Hermogida, com toda a sua descendentes, foi confirmado na nobreza ancestral. Esta linhagem é, de fato, de origem ainda mais antiga, pois em 1516 o mestre pedreiro Antonio Hermogida floresceu em Squillace (Catanzaro), enquanto em 1569 a nobre Diana Hermogida, esposa do nobre Consalvo Linares, floresceu em Gioiosa Ionica. No entanto, deve-se notar que a forma original do sobrenome nem sempre permaneceu intacta ao longo dos séculos com sua grafia primitiva.
