Antigua y muy noble familia ligur, de clara y ancestral virtud, que se ha extendido a lo largo de los siglos en diversas regiones de Italia. Originario del lugar del mismo nombre en los Apeninos de Liguria, de donde tomó su nombre, cerca de Savignone, ya era conocido en el siglo XIV: en el instrumento relativo al dominio de la tercera parte de los feudos del final, seguía hacia el año 1370, Raffaele Clavarezza se encuentra como anciano. De hecho, precisamente a finales del siglo XIV, la familia se trasladó a Génova y sus miembros ocuparon allí varias veces cargos públicos. En virtud de esto, en 1528, los Clavarezza fueron adscritos a la nobleza y agregados al hotel Cibo, en la persona de Stefano Clavarezza. Entre los personajes más famosos que pertenecieron a este linaje se encuentra sin duda el Sereno Bernardo Clavarezza (Génova, 1560 – Génova, 27 de abril
