Antiga e ilustre família de Friuli Venezia-Giulia, de clara e ancestral virtude, difundiu-se ao longo dos séculos em várias regiões da Itália, com grandes povoações na Lombardia-Veneto. De acordo com o que nos é transmitido, descende da família Otto da Suábia, enobrecida em 1600 na pessoa de Philipp Otto, um ramo do qual no decorrer do século XVII se mudou para a região de Udine, tendo chegado à posse de algumas terras. Lá o sobrenome sofreu uma italianização: de von Otto, tornou-se primeiro de Otto e, finalmente, cristalizou-se na forma Deotto. Na nova pátria a família Deotto distinguiu-se como uma das mais notáveis do lugar, tendo dado origem a personalidades que se notabilizaram nas profissões liberais, empresariais, militares e também nas carreiras eclesiásticas.
