Nach unserer Überlieferung stammt sie von der 1600 in der Person Philipp Otto geadelten Familie Otto aus Schwaben ab, von der ein Zweig im Laufe des 17. Jahrhunderts in den Besitz von Udine übersiedelte einige Länder. Dort erfuhr der Familienname eine Italianisierung: Aus von Otto wurde er zunächst de Otto und kristallisierte sich schließlich in der Deotto-Form heraus. In der neuen Heimat hat sich die Familie Deotto als eine der bemerkenswertesten des Ortes profiliert und Persönlichkeiten hervorgebracht, die sich in liberalen, unternehmerischen, militärischen Berufen und auch in kirchlichen Karrieren einen Namen gemacht haben.
