Ancient and very noble family, originally from the homonymous land, in which there are very ancient and precarious memories of it. This family contends with the family of Gaetani for the honor of having given that Giovanni, called di Gaeta, who, in 1118, was proclaimed Pope, with the name of Gelasio II. It enjoyed nobility in Naples, at the seats of Porto and Portanuova, and in Cosenza; after the abolition of seats it was inscribed in the Neapolitan Golden Book. The first character we know of is another Giovanni, who flourished in 1084, who owned several lordships in Naples. In 1382 Francesco di Gaeta, from Naples, was appointed castellan of the Castel di Sant'Angelo in the city of Corfu, by King Charles III of Durres. In 1392 Giacomo was appointed castle of the Rocca d'Aspro Castle; in the fifteenth century another Giacomo, jurisconsult, was a judge. Carlo di Gaeta, doctor
