Ancient and very noble Tuscania family, once Toscanella, of clear and ancestral virtue, which has spread over the centuries in various regions of Italy. Since 1259, a Tobia was general mayor of his homeland. Many of this family came from the Council and occupied the first judiciary. Among the first fifty knights of the Military Order of Giglio, established by Pope Paul III, there are Sebastiano Fani and his son Paolo Vittorio. In 1559 the family was ascribed to the Roman nobility and was included in the Benedictine Bull of 1746 and later appeared among the Conservatives. In 1540 it had nobility from Viterbo and, on September 19, 1709, Vincenzo Fani, husband of Maria Paola Monaldeschi Della Cervara, was reinstated in the same nobility of Viterbo. He was received in the Order of Malta and of S. Stefano di Toscana. The family has related several times with the noble Tuscan
