Antigua y muy noble familia catalana, de clara y ancestral virtud, que se ha extendido a lo largo de los siglos en diversas regiones europeas. Esta familia es originaria del municipio de Farrera, en la provincia de Lleida, de donde tomó su nombre. En los textos más antiguos, la familia se conoce como Farrera. La primera persona que conocemos es un Antonio Farrera, un caballero de San Juan, que en 1334 era comisionado de Lleida. La tradición dice que la familia llegó a Sicilia con Ferrerio de Farrera en 1399, quien más tarde se convirtió en barón de la mitad del feudo de Catuso, de los feudos de Galasi, Belice, Sala, Birribbaida. Justo en Sicilia, la familia cambió parcialmente la cognominización y a menudo se transcribió como Ferrera o Ferreri. En cualquier caso, esta familia era propietaria del principado de S.
