Diese Familie stammt ursprünglich aus der Gemeinde Farrera in der Provinz Lleida, nach der sie benannt wurde. In den ältesten Texten wird die Familie als Farrera bezeichnet. Die erste Person, die wir kennen, ist Antonio Farrera, ein Ritter aus San Juan, der 1334 Lleidas Kommissar war. Nach der Überlieferung kam die Familie 1399 mit Ferrerio de Farrera nach Sizilien, der später Baron der Hälfte des Lehens von Catuso, der Lehen von Galasi, Belice, Sala, Birribbaida wurde.
