Antiga e ilustre família anconitana, cujas origens remontam ao século IX, e precisamente no condado de Ferrette ou Pfirt na Alsácia. É uma tradição ter origens comuns com os Habsburgos e a descendência da nobre linhagem Agilofingi é atribuída àquele Antonio Ferretti que, por volta de 1225, veio para a Itália, estabeleceu sua sede na planície de Ronchi em Chiaravalle e Falconara Marittima, naquela de Ancona, e iniciou o povo de Ferratta. As crônicas sobre as origens nos dizem que Teobaldo, irmão de Ottopert de Habsburg, foi o primeiro conde de Ferretto que viveu no século VIII. O último desses senhores era um conde Ulrich e o próprio imperador da Alemanha, na verdade, tinha entre outros títulos o de Comes Ferrettis, como sem dúvida mostra o diploma de 24 de junho de 1589 de Rudolf II. Um Castrum Ferrettum surgiu na Alsácia germânica e acredita-se que o mencionado Antonio seja
