C'est une tradition d'avoir des origines communes avec les Habsbourg et la descendance de la noble lignée Agilofingi est attribuée à cet Antonio Ferretti qui, vers 1225, est venu en Italie, a établi son quartier général dans la plaine de Ronchi à Chiaravalle et Falconara Marittima, dans ce d'Ancône, et a initié les gens de Ferratta. Les chroniques sur les origines nous disent que Teobaldo, frère d'Ottopert de Habsbourg, fut le premier comte de Ferretto qui vécut au VIIIe siècle.
