Nobile famiglia di Pescia, tra le più antiche ed illustri per le cariche civili, militari ed ecclesiastiche sostenute e per i nobili parentadi contratti, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. I Forti godettero il priorato ed il gonfalonierato e vestirono l'abito di cavaliere nell'Ordine di S. Stefano. Francesco, di Antonio, nonostante morì a soli 32 anni, lasciò scritti di filosofia e di giurisprudenza, conosciuti e apprezzati anche all'estero; Pietro, fratello di Francesco, fu a capo della diocesi di Pescia dal 1847 al 1854. I diversi rami della famiglia furono ascritti alla nobiltà di Pescia con i decreti 9 settembre 1771 e 28 luglio 1794. D'oro, alla fascia di rosso, accompagnata da un lupo rapace di nero, nascente dalla fascia stessa.

Forti originari di Pescia; la difficile identificazione dell'animale, rappresentato senza coda perché nascente, ha portato alcuni araldisti e alcuni disegnatori a dare interpretazioni varie, quali cane o cavallo (cfr. Crollalanza 1886): tuttavia le descrizioni dell'arma annesse al processo per l'ammissione del cavaliere Francesco Forti alla nobiltà di Pescia nel 1771, parlano chiaramente di «lupa». Citato in "Raccolta Ceramelli Papiani" custodita presso l'archivio di stato di Firenze, fasc. 5630.

Forti di Toscana. Famiglia originaria di Volterra; Agostino di Guccio risulta cittadino fiorentino nel 1361. Pietro Gaetano e Forte Maria di Domenico Forti furono ammessi al patriziato volterrano nel 1757 e a quello fiorentino nel 1759.
