Antigua familia de S. Miniato, donde construyó un suntuoso palacio en el siglo XVI; fue atribuido a la ciudadanía florentina en 1367; allí disfrutó de los primeros honores de la República, y Michele fue secretaria de Michele desde 1474 hasta 1478. Dedicada a los Medici, Andrea fue el camarero secreto de Leo X y Clemente VII; y Monseñor Ugolino, que ya era un secretario de confianza del duque Cosimo I, fue creado por este comandante de la región de Altopascio. Il cavaliere Pietro Gaetano di Michele Grifoni, appartenente a una linea estinta nel 1796, era stato ammesso al patriziato fiorentino nel 1751, insieme al cavaliere Ugolino di Cosimo Grifoni.
