Antigua y muy noble familia alemana, originaria de Franconia, en la tierra de Turingia, conocida como von der Kere, Ker, Keer, Kehr o Keher. Según lo que nos ha sido transmitido, ella formaba parte del séquito de los Condes de Henneberg, una familia gobernante sobre varios territorios en el Ducado de Franconia. En particular, a los miembros de esta familia se les otorgó la dignidad de senescales ("Truchsess") del condado de Henneberg. Desde el siglo XIV también fue propietario del castillo de Schwickershausen (Grabfeld), propiedad que conservó hasta 1747. Los miembros de esta noble casa también formaban parte del cantón de caballeros de Rhön-Werra (1520, 1529), un círculo de caballeros de la Santa Imperio Romano perteneciente al círculo de caballeros de Franconia.
