Ancient and noble family of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, of clear and ancestral virtue, known as Leto or (de) Lieto, which has spread over the centuries in various regions of Italy. The first character we know of is a Gualtiero Leto, who in 1298 was a castellan of Catania and in 1301 ambassador to King Federico II. Very noble in Catania, Castrogiovanni, Polizzi, Polignano and Naples, this family owned: the baronies of Capodarso (1399), Priolo (1514), Cammisini and lo Piro, Gasba, Passanitello, Castrogiovanni, and the duchies of Polignano and San Martino. A Benedict, baron of Passanitello, with privilege given on June 26, 1607 and executed on September 5, 1608, also obtained the title of Don. A branch of the family, today however extinct, has enjoyed the marquis title. Casalcipriano, land in the Contado di Molise, in the diocese of Trivento, in fact, in 1669 it belonged to Gio.
