Antica e nobilissima famiglia del Regno delle Due Sicilie, di chiara ed avita virtù, conosciuta come Leto o (de) Lieto, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Il primo personaggio di cui abbiamo notizia è un Gualtiero Leto, che nel 1298 fu castellano di Catania e nel 1301 ambasciatore presso re Federico II. Nobilissima in Catania, Castrogiovanni, Polizzi, Polignano e Napoli, questa famiglia ha posseduto: le baronie di Capodarso (1399), Priolo (1514), Cammisini e lo Piro, Gasba, Passanitello, Castrogiovanni, e i ducati di Polignano e San Martino. Un Benedetto, barone di Passanitello, con privilegio dato il 26 giugno 1607 ed esecutoriato il 5 settembre 1608, ha anche ottenuto il titolo di Don. Un ramo della famiglia, oggi però estinto, ha goduto del titolo marchionale. Casalcipriano, terra in Contado di Molise, in diocesi di Trivento, infatti, nel 1669 apparteneva a Gio. Battista de Rago, poi passò alla famiglia Leto,
