Antica ed assai nobile famiglia lombarda, consolare e decurionale in Cremona ma con residenza anche in Milano, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia e del mondo. Leggenda vuole che essa abbia avuto origine da un fratello di Lao, re di Norvegia, il quale servì il re di Francia, conquistandogli la Borgogna. Esso sarebbe poi venuto in Italia e, dopo alcune imprese in Liguria, si sarebbe fermato in Cremona. Gli storici cremonesi prediligono la teoria secondo cui questa famiglia discende da Manarino, cavaliere francese, stabilitosi con la sua dama in Cremona nell'anno mille. In ogni modo, ciò che è certo è che questa prosapia è tra le più antiche e nobili di Cremona, città ha cui ha dato due consoli e ventidue decurioni, primo dei quali fu Rolando nel 1110 e ultimo Giuseppe nel 1772.
