Antigua y muy noble familia lombarda, consular y decurionada en Cremona pero también con residencia en Milán, de clara y ancestral virtud, que se ha extendido a lo largo de los siglos en diversas regiones de Italia y del mundo. Cuenta la leyenda que se originó a partir de un hermano de Lao, rey de Noruega, que sirvió al rey de Francia, conquistándole Borgoña. Luego vendría a Italia y, tras algunas hazañas en Liguria, haría escala en Cremona. Los historiadores de Cremona favorecen la teoría según la cual esta familia desciende de Manarino, un caballero francés, que se instaló con su dama en Cremona en el año mil. En cualquier caso, lo cierto es que este linaje es de los más antiguos y nobles de Cremona, ciudad a la que dio dos cónsules y veintidós decuriones, siendo el primero Rolando en 1110 y el último Giuseppe en 1772.
