Ancienne et très noble famille lombarde, consulaire et décurionnaire à Crémone mais aussi avec résidence à Milan, de vertu claire et ancestrale, qui s'est répandue au cours des siècles dans diverses régions d'Italie et du monde. La légende veut qu'il provienne d'un frère de Lao, roi de Norvège, qui servit le roi de France en lui conquérant la Bourgogne. Il viendrait ensuite en Italie et, après quelques exploits en Ligurie, s'arrêterait à Crémone. Les historiens de Crémone favorisent la théorie selon laquelle cette famille descend de Manarino, un chevalier français, qui s'est installé avec sa dame à Crémone en l'an mille. En tout cas, ce qui est certain, c'est que cette lignée est parmi les plus anciennes et les plus nobles de Crémone, ville à laquelle elle donna deux consuls et vingt-deux décurions, dont le premier fut Rolando en 1110 et le dernier Giuseppe en 1772.
