Antiga e mui nobre família lombarda, consular e decurionata em Cremona mas também com residência em Milão, de clara e ancestral virtude, que se propagou ao longo dos séculos em várias regiões da Itália e do mundo. Diz a lenda que se originou de um irmão de Lao, rei da Noruega, que serviu ao rei da França, conquistando dele a Borgonha. Seguiria para a Itália e, após algumas façanhas na Ligúria, pararia em Cremona. Os historiadores de Cremona defendem a teoria segundo a qual esta família descende de Manarino, um cavaleiro francês, que se estabeleceu com sua dama em Cremona no ano mil. Em todo o caso, o que é certo é que esta linhagem está entre as mais antigas e nobres de Cremona, cidade à qual deu dois cônsules e vinte e dois decuriões, o primeiro dos quais foi Rolando em 1110 e o último Giuseppe em 1772.
