Illustre casata toscana, con prima residenza in Stia, sorta dall'unione tra due nobili famiglie: i Martini di Firenze ed i Basagni del casentino. La prima è una delle più antiche e nobili stirpi della Toscana e risulta divisa in moltissimi rami. Si ritiene che il ramo dei Martini che ha contratto parentela con i Basagni sia quello originario di Monsummano e dichiarato di antica nobiltà da Gian Gastone, da essi ospitato nel 1734. Tra i più celebri personaggi usciti da questo ramo vi è quel Vincenzo Martini, celebre giurista, governatore di Siena e consigliere di stato del Granduca Ferdinando III. I Basagni risultano insediati nel casentino sin almeno dal secolo decimoterzo. Di questa famiglia tratta il Giuseppe Maria Brocchi nella sua "Vita dei Santi e Beati Fiorentini" (1761), annoverandola tra le primarie del casentino. Ulteriore conferma del prestigio sociale dei Basagni si ha dal fatto che nell'antica chiesa di Stia,
