La première est l'une des lignées les plus anciennes et les plus nobles de la Toscane et se divise en plusieurs branches. On pense que la branche des Martinis qui a contracté une parenté avec les Basagni est celle originaire de Monsummano et déclarée ancienne noblesse par Gian Gastone, hébergé par eux en 1734. Parmi les personnages les plus célèbres issus de cette branche, il y a que Vincenzo Martini, célèbre juriste, gouverneur de Sienne et conseiller d'État du grand-duc Ferdinando III. Les Basagni sont installés dans le Casentino depuis au moins le XIIIe siècle.
