Le origini della famiglia Morpurgo risalgono al principio del secolo XV. IL personaggio più antico di cui si abbiano notizie è un Israel Isserein, figlio di Petachia da Regensburg, che nato , secondo alcuni autori, verso il 1400 a Marburg in Stiria, si sarebbe trasferito circa il 1457 a Vienna, propagandovi la sua prosapia sotto il nome di Marburg, e vi sarebbe morto nell'anno 1460. Dopo il 1560 Ferdinando I emanava contro gli Ebrei un decreto di espulsione da Vienna, ed i Marburg dovettero esulare, dividendosi in tre rami, i quali fissarono la loro sede rispettivamente nella Merania Settentrionale, a Cracovia ed a Gradisca sull'Isonzo. Dal ramo Gradiscano derivarono indubbiamente tutta la famiglia Morgurgo che in epoche diverse si trasferirono nelle seguenti località: a Padova e a Gorizia nel secolo XVII; a Romans e a Ruda presso Gradisca nel 1662, a Livorno e poi a Tunisi nel secolo XVIII; a

Inquartato; al primo e quarto di rosso alla torre al naturale fondata sulla collina di verde; al secondo e terzo di azzurro alla colomba tenente nel becco un ramoscello di ulivo al naturale, volante in banda; sul tutto di azzurro alla balena natante sul mare, con la testa di fronte, la bocca aperta, dalla quale esce un uomo, il tutto al naturale. Cimiero: La stella di argento. Sostegni: Un leone ed un grifone d'oro, linguati di rosso, controrampanti. Conc. R.D. 8 ottobre 1909.
