Algunos autores creen que esta familia, que también está escrita como Piccolella, es la rama de la ilustre Casa Piccolomini de Stana. Se encuentra adscrito al Patriciato de Ravello en la época del Rey Carlos II de Anjou con el soldado Gualtiero, familiar de dicho Rey. En los Archivos Estatales de Nápoles (Reg. Ang. 1308, hoja 186-7) la premisa otorgada por el Rey está marcada 15 de marzo 1309 al soldado llamado Gualtiero, para que desde Ravello, donde estaba al servicio de la R. Corte, pudiera ir a Siena, su tierra natal. También hay noticias de Scipione di Piccolella, Capitán real en S. Pietro en Galatina, en 1473, y otros de la familia, parientes de la Reina Giovanna en 1415. Octavio, hijo de Scipione, fue juez de la Gran Corte del Vicariato y consejero real. en 1621; Francesco, hijo de dicho Ottavio, fue capitán de caballos en 1616. Recibido en
