PICCIOLI | PICCIOLINI | PICCIOLLI | PICCIOLLO | PICCIOLO | PICCIOLONI

Piccioli is typical of the area that includes the Modena, Bologna, Tuscany, Pesaro, Ancona and Umbria, with a strain also in Rome, Picciolini, very rare, has an Umbrian lineage, and one between Siena and Grosseto, with a stock also in Rome, Picciolli, extremely rare, is Tuscan, while Picciollo is practically unique, Picciolo has a stock in the Lecce area and one in the Messina area, Piccioloni, very very rare, has a lineage in Perugia, all these surnames derive , directly or through hypocoristic or augmentative forms, from the medieval nickname Picciolus (with the meaning of baby), then entered into use also as a name, of which we have an example in Deruta in Perugia, in a will of 1348, where between the one can read that the beneficiaries are: "... Thomas et Orlandus domini Nini; Petrutius Sensi, Picciolus Andree, Tura magistri Pauli and Salvarellus Salvoli ...", traces of these surnames give them to Trevi in a deed of the second half from 1500, preserved in the the Notarial Archive of Trevi: "... Nos Titius Picciolus de terra Apostae Regius ad contractus Iudex for totas province Aprutii, Vespasianus Arista de Castro Sancti Demetrii publicus ubique for dictas totas Aprutinas provincias Regia auctoritate Notarius et subscripti testes habiti, ad haec omnia habiti vocati et rogati .... "and also in the act of taking possession of the municipality of Posta nel reatino by Margherita di Austria, dated 1st August 1572:" ... ab excellenti Domina Helionora Cornesia virtute clausulae constitutae in instrument venditionis hujusmodi rogato manu egregii Notarii Iosippi Margici de Aquila apparentis personalité if contulit ad dictam terram Apostae et ad se vocavit Magnificos Antonellum Leonardi, Alfonsum Rodulphium, Euditium Piccioli et Fabianum Cherubs Priores terrae praefate collegialiter existentes cum maxima alumum virorum terrae ejusdem caterva ante januam ejusdem terrae ....
