Ancient family from Tronzano in Vercellese, who participated in the noble consortium of Vintebbio. The first sure memories remind us of a James, who was a doctor of laws, and lived in the mid-fifteenth century. His son Giovanni was mayor of Tronzane and Moncrivello. He had two sons Antonio and Stefano, both of whom I noticed. Stefano descended from Carlo Giovanni and Carlo Francesco. The latter is the jamb of the Gifflenga line, having been feuded on July 8, 1722 and invested on September 27 of this fief with the noble title; fiefdom that was erected in comitial title in favor of his nephew Carlo Francesco (deceased Vercelli, 30 December 1817), by Alessandro, on 17 August 1772. This branch ended with his son Alessandro (born Vercelli, 19 October 1774), who was officer of the Italic Kingdom, then Sardinian lieutenant general. He had been created a knight of the French Empire on January 15, 1809 and subsequently Baron on April 14, 1810. Carlo, Giovanni, who was a notary, had from his wedding with Anna Maria Berta, Stefano and Giampetro. The latter, who was a lawyer, had Carlo Giovanni (deceased Santhià, 12 August 1801) who took the name De Berta, and who was infeuded for Camo (Alba) and his township on 26 April 1761 with a comital title. Stefano, who was a master chamber auditor, was infeuded by Donato (Biella) on 11 March 1724 and invested on the following 11 May the same year with the comital title. He married Marta Clarinetti, and they were his children, between the other Giuseppe Antonio and Maurizio, from whom the line of S. Raffaele originates. Giuseppe Antonio (born Turin, March 2, 1712, deceased August 26, 1795), who was invested with the fiefdom on January 10, 1735, had for his son Stefano (born Anthià, February 8,
