Ancienne maison originaire du Velay. Fils bâtard de Henri II roi de France et de N. de Leviston (d'origine écossaise). Il était chevalier de Malte, grand prieur de France, gouverneur de Provence et amiral des mers du Levant. Nommé en 1562 abbé séculier de La Chaise-Dieu, son abbatiat fut marqué par la pise de cette abbaye par les Huguenots (2 août 1562) et par la reprise par les catholiques. Ce prince rendit de plus en 1569, une ordonnance réglementaire soumettant La Chaise-Dieu à Cluny. Les moines se révoltérent, recouvrérent quelque temps leur droit d'élection et repoussérent les abbés commendataires. Ils furent finalement contraints à se soumettre. Henri mourut à Aix-en-Provence, le 2 juin 1586, tué d'un coup d'épée par Philippe Alviotti, baron de Castellane, gouverneur de cette ville, son ennemi juré. ...
