Nous trouvons ce nom orthographié de diverses façons Argenviller, Argenvilliers, Hargenvillier, Hargenville, etc. Le premier connu d'après Saint-Allais serait Pierre notaire, qui épousa Catherine du Bois et serait père de: 1° Pierre qui s'établit à Auch; 2° Etienne; 3° Esprit aui s'établit à Villeneuve-de-Berg et qui épousa Marie La Sagne ou La Saigne, fille de François Deydier, seigneur de La Sagne et de Françoise d'Alamel, dont il eut entre autre: Pierre de Monthéry, docteur de l'Université d'Orange habitait le Bourg, le 11 septembre 1663. Il fut baill d'Aps où il acquit beaucoup d'immeubles. Il avait épousé Dorothée Mège La palud, de Vogue et en eut huit enfants. De Pierre, établi à Auch, descendait Clément né à Rome, le 30 décembre 1687, qui devient célèbre avocat consistorial, chanoine de Saint-Jean de LAtran et fut fait cardinal le 26 novembre 1753, par le Pape Benoit XIv. Il mourut à rome âgé de 71 ans, le 23 décembre 1756. Joseph, né en 1670 , fils de Antoine et de Dorothée Mège, se retira du monde à l'âge de 35 ans, pour se faire trappiste au monastère de Sept-Fons (Bourbonnais), où il reçut habitat le 3 juillet 1705 et fut abbé de 1710 à 1742. Il mourut il 20 avril 1742, âgé de 72 ans, après 32 ans de prélature. Joseph, devenu abbé, se souvient de son pays d'origine et eut touchante pensée d'accorder aux onsuls et habitants du Bourg des lettres d'affiliation en témoignage d'estime et d'amitié. ...
