On la retrouve à différentes époques, en divers localités et il y a eu nombreux personnages illustres de ce nom. On signale les personnages dignes de mémoire: Guillaume, devait un tiers de chevalier à l'ost du duc en 1294; Geoffroi, l'un des nobles de la baronnie de Retz, prête serment au Duc en 1383. La châtellenie du Loroux a appartenu successivement depuis, aux Machecoul, Craon, Laval, Landais, l'Epervier, la Noue et par acquét en 1590, Goulaine. La branche de la Tocnaye fondue vers 1565 dans Bougrenet. On remarque (dès le XIIIème siècle) des alliances importantes avec des familles nobles en Bretagne et autres régions françaises. Il serait superflu de rappeler ici tout ce qui a été écrit sur le blason, sur la noblesse et sur l'origine du nom de cette famille. Nous ne saurions mieux faire que de vous indiquer l'introduction de Pol Potier de Coursy en tête de son ouvrage "Nobiliaire et Armorial de Bretagne", qui a eu l'approbation de toutes les personnes compétentes en cette matière.
