Famiglia milanese che si ritiene discendere da quella anticamente chiamata "da Intimiano", nome derivato da un castello omonimo da lei posseduto in quel di Como. La nuova denominazione sarebbe stata assunta allorché Girardo o Gariardo, nipote di Eriberto d'Intimiano, arcivescovo di Milano. che si impadronì della corte e pieve di Arzago. Contò molti illustri personaggi fra cui: Girolamo vescovo di Nizza e grande elemosiniere di Caterina de' Medici, regina di Francia, nel 1544; Francesco, tenente generale e governatore di Milano nel 1624, poi governatore di Genova. La famiglia si divise in due rami: quello discendente da Paolo e quello da Antonio, entrambi riconosciuti nobili dall'I.R. Tribunale Araldico di Milano rispettivamente nel 1771 e nel 1770. Detta nobiltà fu riconfermata con Decreto Ministeriale 14 marzo 1894 per mf. a Costantino, di Giuseppe, di Luigi.
