Il primo personaggio di cui abbiamo novella è un Gerardo Cocuzza, gentiluomo e scudiero del re Federico III. D’altronde, tal famiglia, nel dispiegarsi dei lustri, sempre è riuscita a produrre una serie di uomini che hanno reso illustre il suo nome, nei pubblici impieghi, nelle professioni liberali ed ecclesiastiche e nel servizio militare.
