Le nom de cette famille, qui est celui du principal fief qu'elle a possédé, se trouve écrit de façons bien diverses; dans les anciens registre de l'ordre de Malte, auquel elle a fourni un nombre considérable de chevaliers, il est écrit Demandolis; postérieurement et dans le cours des XVème et XVIème siècles on le trouve inscrit Demandes, Demande, Demandouz, Demandox, Demandauz, Demandaux, La Demande et Demandol. Divisée en plusieurs branches, une d'elle, établie à Marseille au milieu du XVIème siècle, y était désignée sous le nom de Demende. Lea autres branches paraissent s'être enfin fixées à celui Demandolx. Par suite de diverses contestations à ce sujet, deux arrêts des 9 et 20 avril 1785 ont autorisé la branche de marseille à présenter tous leurs actes comme titres de familles et ont ordonné que foit serait ajoutèe à la signature de demandolx comme à celle Demende. Barthélemy fut viguier d'Arles en 1464. De Demandolx fut élu conseiller au parlement de Provence en 1787. Le marquis de Demandolx la Palu fut élu maire d'Aix en 1787 et 1788. Cette famille a contracté des alliances avec les maisons de Bondil, de Bezieux, de Glandevès, de Boquis, de Campo, de Guillermy, etc. Parmi les représentants actuels de cette maison on trouve M. le comte de Demandolx. ...
