A origem desta família é na Gasconha, França, e já existia no século XIII, sendo a forma antiga do apelido des Landes, tirada da região do mesmo nome, naquela província, a qual veio a formar un departamento. A ligação da preposição foi fenómeno vulgar, muito corrente em França, como em Debonaire, Dubois, Dupont e tantíssimos outros apelidos. O Rei Luís XI deu a Jacques des Landes vários senhorios e armas de nobreza. Foi descendente deste Jacques des Landes um Miguel des Landes que, no século XVIII, por haver casado com uma senhora inglesa protestante se converteu à mesma religião. Passou à cidade de Thouar, no Poitou, onde viveu. Devido às preseguições sofridas pelos protestantes em França um de seus filhos, também chamado Miguel, emigrou por 1669. Veio para Portugal, estabelecendo-se em Lisboa e depois de se converter ao Catolicismo, casou-se e montou uma tipografia. Por alvará de D. Pedro II, datado de 6 de Outubro de 1687, foi nomeado impressor régio. Deixou descendência, que usa actualmente o apelido na forma Deslandes. Timbre: um grifo de negro, sainte, sustendo nas mãos duas balas de imprensa. Este timbre ou, pelo menos, as balas de imprensa foram tomadas por Miguel des Landes em alusão ao cargo de impressor régio. ...
