Nobility crown DiamantiAntica ed assai nobile famiglia toscana, con residenza in Pistoia, le cui prime vestigia si rinvengono già nel secolo decimo quarto. L'origine di tal cognominizzazione, al dir di autorevoli genealogisti, andrebbe ricercata nel nome proprio medioevale, sia maschile che femminile, "Diamante", appartenuto, probabilmente, ad un, oggi ignoto, capostipite. In ogni modo, il Pontefice Bonifacio IX, ossia Pietro Tomacelli, nell'anno 1401, su consiglio del suo segretario Bartolomeo Franchi, conferì il Vescovado di Pistoia a Matteo Diamanti, Canonico di S. Zenone, figlio di Ser Lazzaro, già Cavaliere Gaudente, e nipote della sorella del Vescovo, suo predecessore, rinunciatario. Nel 1409, si tenne in Pisa un Concilio Generale di ventiquattro Cardinali, tre Patriarchi, 180 Vescovi e Arcivescovi, 300 Abati e 282 Teologi, al quale partecipò il detto Matteo, per creare il vero Pontefice Alessandro V, contro gli scismatici condannati Gregorio XII e l'antipapa Benedetto.
