Il Comune di Canneti Pavese, infatti, originariamente, era conosciuto come "Montù de Gabbi", proprio dal nome di cotal nobile famiglia, che lo possedeva: i Gabbi tennero, in qualità di signori, Monteacutello de Gabbi, poi ridotto in Montù de Gabbi, dal XIII al XV secolo. Successivamente, la famiglia, la quale, divisasi in due rami principali, godeva anche del titolo comitale e marchionale, passò a risiedere in Emilia-Romagna. In Parma, nel XVII secolo, il ramo marchionale dei GABBI fece costruire l'omonimo palazzo nobiliare, che, alla fine dell'800, fu venduto ai nobili Tirelli; il conte Giovanni GABBI, nel 1742, acquistò il castello di Bianello e, nel XVIII secolo, anche il feudo di Bibbiano passò ai marchesi Gabbi (1757).
