El distinguido genealogista extremeño, don Antonio del Solar y Taboada, dice que algunos autores afirman que el progenitor de este linaje en Extremadura fué Gotier G., ilustre caballero que acompañó al Rey don Alfonso IX en sus expediciones guerreras por la citada región de Extremadura, y que, después de honrarlo su soberano con algunas mercedes, fijó su residencia en el Montijo, villa del partido judicial de Llerena (Badajoz). El Cronista de Felipe VI, Lorenzo Díaz del Valle y de la Puerta, en su "Recopilación Genealógica", asegura que el citado caballero descendía de las Montañas, y no de Toledo, como quieren algunos. Los G. gozaron, desde muy antiguo, de todas las preeminencias y franquicias de las familias nobles, y esta nobleza la probaron varias veces. La primera probanza la hicieron en el siglo XVI. A Alonso G., vecino del Montijo, le disputaron su hidalguía y sostuvo pleito contra la villa y su Procurador Síndico, justificando plenamente, no sólo que era hijodalgo, sino que lo habían sido su padre, Pedro G., y su abuelo paterno, del mismo nombre. En 1538, la Sala de los Hijosdalgo de la Chancillería de Granada, le declaró hijodalgo notorio de sangre, y lo mismo a su padre y abuelo, condenando en costas a la parte contraria con cincuenta ducados para la Cámara de Su Majestad. Dicho Alonso G., tuvo dos hijos Alonso G., que marchó a las Indias, donde murió, y otro Alonso G., que sigue. Este Antonio G., vivió siempre en el Montijo, donde tenía grandes posesiones. ...
