Antichissimo e celebre casato bolognese, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatosi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia, celebre per i suoi molti membri illustri, per santità e dottrina. La tradizione rinviene il capostipite in un Pier, di Enrico, il cui figlio Rolandino fu console nel 1174, 1179 e 1181. Nobili e fieri, i Salluzzi appartennero alla consorteria dei Geremei, antagonisti dei Carbonesi, misero a scompiglio la propri patria per ben ventiquattro volte impadronendosi con la forza delle armi dei pubblici uffici.
