Famiglia originaria di Settimano o Stimano, paesetto vicino a Brisighella nel circondario di Faenza, da dove un certo Alessandro nei primi del cinquecento dovette fuggire per delitto di sangue e rifugiarsi alla Rocca S. Casciano. Nel 1623 monsignor Marco, spedalingo di S. Maria Nuova, ottenne, col fratello Cassiano, podestà di Poggibonsi, l'ammissione alla cittadinanza fiorentina. Marco, di Francesco, fu avvocato di grido, fece parte del Consiglio dei Duegento, e fondò una commenda di S. Stefano, nel quale il 13 genn. 1703 vestì le divise di cavaliere il figlio Francesco. Questi condusse una vita oltremodo avventurosa.
