Antica famiglia di Verona, che fu compresa nel Campione dell'estimo dal 1409 e appartenne al Maggior Consiglio di quella città dal 1427, rimanendovi ininterrottamente sino alla soppressione. Antonio da Castelnuovo, qm. Guidone, fu il primo della famiglia a sedere in Consiglio. Questa famiglia ebbe in proprietà uno dei monti dell'antico confine veneto-trentino e che prese il nome di monte; ebbe altresì in feudo la terra di Arbizzano in Valpolicella. Sostenne in vari tempi le cariche di vicario della Casa dei Mercanti di provveditore del Comune, di podestà di Peschiera e dette giureconsulti, giudici di Collegio e ciambellani imperiali. Il ramo tuttora vivente proviene da un Bartolomeo morto in Verona nel 1380. Il conte Ferdinando si distinse nella campagna dell'Indipendenza Italiana del 1866-70.
