Cette maison avait justifié devant les commissaires généraux du Conseil le 14 août 1704, qu'elle jouissait de la noblesse dans la principauté d'Orange. En 1346, Pons Valleton, d'Aubenas, fait don de tous ses biens à l'Abbaye de Charay. La filiation de cette maison, donnée par M. R. de Gigord, commence à Jean Valleton, docteur ès droits, de la ville d'Aubenas et juge de cette ville en 1551. Elle fut représentée en 1789 à l'Assemblèe de la noblesse tenue à Villeneuve-de-Berg pour la nomination des Etats généraux, par Jean-François, ancien major d'infanterie, chevalier de Saint-Louis. Le docteur Francus dans "Les Huguenots du Vivarais", donne d'intéressantes notes sur divers personnages de cette maison qui jouèrent un rôle important pendant les guerres religieuses.
